Tomorrow, October 24th marks a momentous occasion – the Day of Days for the Old Seminarians Association of Nigeria Annual Convention. It is a day when old seminarians from far and wide, hailing from the hallowed halls of Catholic Seminaries across the land, will converge to rekindle the flame of their shared experiences, reliving the cherished moments of their seminary days
This reunion is a testament to the unbreakable bond of brotherhood, a celebration of the love, camaraderie, and shared heritage that has forever forged us into a family of kindred spirits.
As we gather, the air will be filled with the sweet scent of nostalgia, as we reminisce about the golden days of yore, singing songs that stir memories, and partaking in the time-honored traditions of our seminary heritage. It is a day when the unspoken language of love, brotherhood, and fraternity will reign supreme, enveloping all in attendance in its warm, golden light.
I eagerly anticipate tomorrow, when I shall be reunited with my brothers, with whom I shared the crucible of seminary life – rising with the dawn, responding to the clarion call of the bell, and grappling with the rigors of our vocation. The seminary’s regimented process, designed to instill discipline and temper character, was a shared experience that forged an unbreakable bond among us.
I recall my own journey, marked by rebellion, nonconformity, and a dash of pugnacity. Yet, in the midst of my youthful follies, I was blessed to have had a Rector, OP Achebe, who loved me with a paternal affection, recognizing my strengths and nurturing them, while gently guiding me to overcome my weaknesses. The seminary training, I came to realize, is a transformative process that celebrates individual strengths, while tempering weaknesses through discipline and resolve.
Tomorrow, we shall gather to commune with one another, basking in the warmth of conviviality and friendship, sharing stories, and reliving memories that only seminary brothers can truly understand. It promises to be a day of unbridled joy, a celebration of the indelible mark that our seminary heritage has left upon our lives.
